This past month my family and I took our first trip to the Big Apple. We completely fell in love!
The hustle, the culture, and all the chaotic beauty in between created so many amazing memories.

The challenge of this trip for me was that my kids really just wanted to wing it. I am not a wing it kinda gal when it comes to family trips. I plan and scheme for months before we depart. You have to find all the best places and activities, right? What if we miss things we had no idea were even there? For this trip I was given a chance to plan only one activity. So, naturally I made that shit count!
One of the main reasons we were visiting New York was my daughter’s interest in graffiti art. I started there. My goal, to find the best collection of graffiti art in the city. Enter Bushwick!
That’s when I stumbled upon Graff Tours.

With Graff Tours you don’t just learn about graffiti art; you experience it.
They have a few options available, but we opted for the private workshop and tour.
Our day started off with a trip around the block with one of the most knowledgeable guides I have ever had. In any type of local tour really.
His passion for the art was clear.
Not only did we learn about the artists who created the work, but the history of the New York City graffiti scene as a whole.
Next, was our workshop, where we would learn firsthand from an NYC artist some tips and tricks of spray painting. As expected, my daughter and husband had an easier time than I did. Spray paint fricken’ hates me, but I did learn a lot. After lessons and practicing you start on your own 4ft x 4ft canvas piece. This is where I stepped back to let them do their thing. At the end your artist goes through and fine tunes everything to really make it shine.
Afterwards, you’re able to take the canvas home as a one-of-a-kind souvenir.

If you’re heading to the city then you without a doubt have to check them out.
Pretty standard cost for an activity in NYC, and totally worth it for the experience you get!
